Oboist Ben Gannon and pianist Ellen Jansson bring fresh energy and virtuosity to a programme that ranges far and wide. Messiaen’s Vocalise-Étude and Boulanger’s Nocturne offer quiet, radiant beginnings, before Saint-Saëns’ late, lyrical Sonata in D major settles into something more searching. Jacob ter Veldhuis’ The Garden of Love and Pasculli’s dazzling Amelia turn up the drama, while Françaix’s L'Horloge de Flore and Facer’s Manhattanhenge bring wit and colour to close the programme.
The concert will also feature the world première of the winning work from the WWF Composition Competition, presented in partnership with the Contemporary Music Centre.
