A richly contrasted programme brings the Bechstein Trio to the stage in an evening spanning Classical poise, Romantic passion, and contemporary Irish music.

The concert opens with Beethoven’s Allegretto for Piano Trio in B-flat major, a work of charm and elegance that offers a glimpse of the composer’s early voice. This is followed by Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, a lyrical and brilliantly crafted masterpiece, celebrated for its warmth, vitality, and radiant, exhilarating finale.

After the interval, the programme turns to the present with Rhona Clarke’s Piano Trio No. 2, a compelling and finely wrought work by one of Ireland’s leading composers, exploring colour, texture, and expressive intensity. The evening concludes with Brahms’ Piano Trio No. 1 in B major, a youthful yet expansive work revised by the composer later in life, combining warmth, grandeur, and symphonic breadth in one of the cornerstones of the trio repertoire.
