On opening night, a landmark recital at Russborough House sees Founder and Artistic Director Fiachra Garvey present a powerful and wide-ranging programme, culminating in one of the great monuments of the piano repertoire.
The evening opens with Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 30 in E major, a late masterpiece of profound intimacy and spiritual depth in which lyricism and innovation intertwine. This is followed by the world premiere of a new festival commission by Irish composer Greg Felton, Ode to Russborough, a work inspired by the history, architecture, and atmosphere of its remarkable setting
After Chopin’s blazing Polonaise in A-flat major, the iconic “Heroic” - a work of grandeur, defiance and virtuosity - the programme concludes with Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, a vivid musical gallery of characterful scenes and powerful sonorities, bringing this exciting recital to a thrilling close.
